An SDX-Docs variable is a placeholder in double curly braces, such as {{page_count}}. You use variables in a document, in a content template, and in the text of a layout.

Where you can use them
- Document: the variable control in the editor toolbar lists the variables above.
- Content template: the editor toolbar of a content template has the same variable control. See Create a content template.
- Layout: each position (Left, Center, Right) set to Text accepts variables such as
{{page_count}}. See Create a layout for header and footer.
