This article explains how organization admins can create a device user — an account type designed for logging into connected mobile applications such as SDX-PocketScan.
Introduction
A device user is a simplified SDX-Cloud account intended for use with external or companion apps that upload data to SDX-Cloud. Unlike standard users, device users cannot access SDX-Cloud directly — their sole purpose is to enable data upload from supported apps.
This setup is ideal for field devices like the SDX-PocketScan, allowing users to scan and sync data efficiently without requiring full cloud access.
Use a device user for scanners or field devices that only need to upload data from supported apps (for example, SDX-PocketScan), without granting SDX-Cloud access.
Prerequisites
Before creating a device user, ensure the following:
You are logged in as an organization admin.
Your organization is active in SDX-Cloud.
You have access to the User Management section within your organization overview.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Navigate to User Management
Open SDX-Cloud.
Go to your Organization Overview.
Click User Management from the sidebar.
Step 2: Add a Device User
In the top-right corner of the user table, click “+”.
Select Add device user from the dropdown menu.
Step 3: Enter User Credentials
A popup window will appear for adding one or multiple device users.
Fill in the following fields:
Copy the password now; it cannot be viewed later.
E-Mail domain (1) – Enter or confirm your organization’s email domain (e.g.,
@sodex.at). (1)-
E-Mail (2) – Enter the local part of the device user’s email (without the domain). (2)
Tip
Use the device’s serial number as part of the email name, e.g.,123456@sodex-innovations.com.Password – Set a password for the device user.
More Users (3) - To add more users in one go, click the “+” icon in the top-right of the popup and repeat the process for each user. The email domain remains pre-filled.
Invite/Create users - Once all credentials are entered, click Invite. The device users will now appear in your user list without a license (default). They do not need email confirmation and cannot access SDX-Cloud directly.
The created device users can now log in to any supported mobile app to upload scan data directly to SDX-Cloud (e.g. SDX-PocketScan):
Tips and Common Issues
Forgot password? Delete the device user and recreate it with a new password.
User cannot access SDX-Cloud: This is expected — device users can only upload data, not access the SDX-Cloud.
