Introduction
In remote construction environments, internet access is often limited or unavailable. To ensure reliable connectivity, the SDX-Compact can be configured to use Starlink as its primary internet source.
This article explains how customers prepare their Starlink system so that Sodex Support can connect the SDX-Compact to the Starlink Wi-Fi network. A one-time remote support session is required to disable the device’s default Wi-Fi hotspot and link it to the Starlink router.
The internal SIM card remains active and functions automatically as a fallback connection.
Setup requires a one-time remote session with Sodex Support. The SDX-Compact’s internal SIM stays active and automatically acts as a fallback if Starlink is offline.
Using Starlink provides:
Stable internet in remote locations
Reliable real-time cloud syncing
Remote diagnostics and support access
Continuous operation even when local networks are unavailable
Starlink Setup Requirements
Before the SDX-Compact can be connected to Starlink, the following must be configured on the Starlink system:
Make sure the requirements below are completed before the remote support session. This helps avoid delays during configuration.
Wi-Fi Network
Ensure that the Starlink router is set up and broadcasting an active Wi-Fi network with working internet access.
SSID and Password
The Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password must not contain any spaces.
If needed, rename the network in the Starlink App.
Subnet Configuration
The Starlink router must not use any of the following subnets in the range below:
192.168.0.1/24 → 192.168.10.1/24
These ranges are reserved by the SDX-Compact.
Use the following subnet for Starlink whenever possible: 10.0.0.1/16
Recommended subnet for Starlink:
10.0.0.1/16
A video tutorial showing how to change the subnet is available here.
Once these conditions are met, Sodex Support can complete the system configuration.
Connecting the SDX-Compact to Starlink
The SDX-Compact must be configured by a Sodex technician through the device’s built-in SIM connection. During the remote session, the technician will:
Disable the SDX-Compact hotspot
Connect the device to the Starlink Wi-Fi network
Update firewall rules to allow internet traffic through Starlink
The SDX-Compact uses Starlink as primary internet when available and switches to the internal SIM automatically if Starlink is offline.
After configuration:
If Starlink is online: The SDX-Compact uses Starlink as its primary internet source.
If Starlink is offline: The device automatically switches to the internal SIM card.
Avoid turning Starlink on or off while the SDX-Compact is running, as sudden network changes can interrupt connectivity and ongoing processes.
Accessing SDX-Mate Through Starlink
After the SDX-Compact is connected to Starlink, its internal hotspot is disabled.
To access the SDX-Mate interface:
Open the Starlink App.
Navigate to the list of connected devices.
Look for a device labeled “sdx” or “nvidia”.
Note the IP address assigned to that device.
Enter the IP address into your browser to access SDX-Mate.
The subnet configuration video also shows where the Starlink App lists connected devices.
