Learn how to correctly power on the SDX-PocketScan and connect it to your mobile app for scanning and GNSS positioning.
Introduction
The SDX-PocketScan is a compact mobile 3D scanning device
designed for fast and accurate data capture using an iPhone Pro (iPhone 17
Pro not supported - only iPhone 17 Pro Max).
Before scanning, the device must be powered on and connected to the Sodex
Mobile app for high-precision georeferenced results.
Prerequisites
Before starting, make sure you have:
- An SDX-PocketScan device
- The antenna correctly plugged into the SDX-PocketScan
- A MagSafe-compatible iPhone (iPhone 12 Pro or newer except iPhone 17 Pro)
- The Sodex Mobile App installed, updated and access
- Access credentials for your correction service provider
The iPhone 17 Pro is not supported due to a changed LiDAR placement which prevents correct alignment with the SDX-PocketScan.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is supported when used with the corresponding supported antenna configuration.
Connect the antenna before turning the device on. A loose or missing antenna can reduce GNSS quality and prevent a stable fix.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Check the Antenna Connection
Ensure the antenna is properly plugged into the SDX-PocketScan device
before
turning it on.
A loose antenna may result in poor GNSS accuracy or connection issues.
If accuracy values stay high or you cannot reach RTK fix, re-check the antenna connection first.
Step 2: Turn On the SDX-PocketScan
- Press the white magnet line once briefly.
- Then press and hold the white magnet line until the leftmost light at the bottom turns blue.
- The flashing blue light indicates that the device is powered on and ready for pairing.
Demonstrates the correct power-on sequence with LED indicator behavior.
Once powered on, attach the SDX-PocketScan to the back of your phone’s MagSafe case to ensure stable alignment during operation.
Make sure the PocketScan sits flat and centered on the MagSafe area. A stable mounting reduces movement and improves scan consistency.
Step 3: Connect with the App
If you scan frequently, you can enable automatic connection to the most recently used RTK receiver in Settings. This reduces setup time at the start of a scan session.
- Open Settings in Sodex Mobile
- Enable the option for automatic RTK receiver / GNSS connection
- Return to the scan screen and confirm the RTK receiver tile connects as expected
Tips and Troubleshooting
Reset the SDX-PocketScan
If the SDX-PocketScan is unresponsive or cannot be found reliably, you can perform a reset using the small reset hole on the left middle side of the device (next to the magnet area).
- Locate the small reset hole.
- Use a thin tool such as a SIM-ejection pin, needle, or a straightened paper clip.
- Carefully press into the hole and hold for 5 seconds.
- Release and wait a few seconds, then try connecting again in Sodex Mobile.
After the reset, keep the PocketScan close to the phone and ensure Bluetooth is enabled before reconnecting.
- If no device is found during scanning: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled and the PocketScan is within range.
- Low accuracy values (>0.1 m): Check antenna placement and confirm correction service is connected and External GNSS is selected in the Location Settings. Also ensure you have a clear view of the sky and a cellular connection.
- Device won’t power on: Recharge the PocketScan or check if the button press sequence was performed correctly.
