What this guide covers
This article explains how to mechanically mount and electrically connect the SDX-Compact to your machine. Follow each step in order to ensure secure mounting and reliable operation.
Before you start
Disconnect the battery disconnect switch before connecting any cables. Check for a voltage-free condition and secure the system against re-activation.

Mounting Plate Overview
Important
Do not remove the red protective film from the underside of the mounting plates until you have aligned the SDX-Compact in the desired position. Remove the film only after rough alignment is complete.

Step 1 – Position the Mounting Plates
- Position the four mounting plates at the desired location on the machine.
- Mount the plates only on metallic surfaces.
- Ensure each plate is fully supported by the surface.
Mounting restriction
Mounting on (plexi) glass or plastic components is not allowed. It is only permitted after consultation with a trained Sodex installer.

Step 2 – Align the SDX-Compact
- Place the SDX-Compact on the mounting plates.
- Align the holes of the SDX-Compact bracket with the holes of each mounting plate.
- Use the designated mounting holes for proper alignment.
Step 3 – Adjust and Mark Positions
- Adjust each mounting plate so it aligns with one of the five available mounting holes.
- Insert a screw or threaded rod into the holes to verify alignment.
- Remove the SDX-Compact.
- Mark the final positions of all mounting plates.
Step 4 – Fix the Mounting Plates
- Insert an M8 threaded rod or screw approximately 5 mm (approx. 0.2 in) through the mounting plate so it protrudes on the opposite side.
- Remove the red protective film from the adhesive tape.
- Place the mounting plates onto the previously marked positions.
- Slowly release the screws so the plates lie flat.
Pressing time
After the plates lie flat on the surface, press them firmly for approximately 20 seconds.
If mounting on a non-magnetic surface, press for about 1 minute.

Step 5 – Compensate Height Differences (If Required)
- Check whether all four mounting points are at the same height.
- If plates are mounted at different heights, insert a washer under the SDX-Compact bracket.
- If the SDX-Compact does not rest evenly on all four contact points, use washers for stabilization.
Step 6 – Secure the SDX-Compact
- Fasten the SDX-Compact using an M8 screw or threaded rod.
- Always use a washer.
Threaded rod notice
If using a threaded rod, apply thread locker.
Tighten the nut only 10 minutes after securing the threaded rod.

Step 7 – Electrical Connection
- Connect the SDX-Compact at the battery disconnect switch.
- Connect the red fuse holder to the positive terminal.
- Connect the blue cable after the disconnect switch.
- Plug in the SDX-Compact only after the cable is fully connected.
⚠ Electrical safety
• Disconnect the battery disconnect switch before connecting the cable.
• Ensure the system is voltage-free.
• Secure against accidental re-activation.

Installation Notes & Best Practices
GNSS & LTE signal
Ensure there are no obstructions around the GNSS or LTE antennas. Metallic elements higher than the GNSS antenna can significantly impair functionality.

- Avoid mounting near hot components such as ventilation grilles, exhausts, or heating elements.
- Keep a minimum distance of 1 meter (approx. 3.3 ft) from other radio antennas.
- Test other electronic components before final commissioning to ensure no interference occurs.
- Do not connect the SDX-Compact to the ignition. Voltage drops during engine start may cause errors.
- Ensure the line of sight of the laser scanner is not blocked.
