Learn how to create an SDX-PocketScan device in SDX-Cloud and select the correct license type. This is required so Sodex Mobile uploads work correctly and so the device can be used for the intended licensed workflow.
Important
The PocketScan serial number cannot be changed after you save.
Once a license or flatrate is assigned, device management options may be restricted. If a device must be moved or deleted (for example to another organization) after a license or flatrate is assigned, contact Sodex Support.
If you select Mapping Pro, do not assign a flatrate because Mapping Pro already behaves like a flatrate.

Prerequisites
- You are an organization admin (device management requires admin permissions).
- You can open Organization > Settings > Devices.
- You have the PocketScan device in hand so you can read the serial number printed on the back.
Why this matters
If a PocketScan tries to upload data and its serial number is not registered in SDX-Cloud (or registered with the wrong format), the upload will not work.
If a PocketScan tries to upload data and its serial number is not registered in SDX-Cloud (or registered with the wrong format), the upload will not work.
Step-by-step: Add an SDX-PocketScan device
- Open Organization > Settings > Devices.
- Select the SDX-PocketScan tab.
- Click the + button to add a new PocketScan.
-
Fill out the fields:
- Name: a clear, recognizable device name.
- Serial number: enter it carefully (see the exact format rules below).
- Description (optional): internal notes.
-
Configure the options as needed:
- Active: enables automatic processing behavior for this device.
- Create pins: enables automatic creation of pins in Infomap.
- License type: select the correct option from the dropdown. Available options are None, Pole, Mapping, and Mapping Pro.
- Has flatrate: enable only if needed and only when Mapping Pro is not selected.
- Click Continue / Save.
PocketScan serial number format
The PocketScan serial number is printed on the back of the PocketScan device and must be entered exactly as shown. SDX-Cloud validates each part strictly: there is no auto-formatting and no automatic case conversion.
How the serial is structured
PocketScan serial numbers follow one of these patterns:
PocketScan serial numbers follow one of these patterns:
- Normal: AAAAA-BBBBBBBB
- Extended: AAAAA-BBBBBBBB-CC
-
Normal serial number uses two input
fields:
- Part 1 (AAAAA): 5 characters, lowercase letters and numbers only (a-z, 0-9).
- Part 2 (BBBBBBBB): 8 characters, UPPERCASE letters and numbers only (A-Z, 0-9).
Example: 070d3-030067H9 - Part 1 = 070d3, Part 2 = 030067H9 -
Extended serial number uses three
input fields:
- Part 1 (AAAAA): 5 characters, lowercase letters and numbers.
- Part 2 (BBBBBBBB): 8 characters, UPPERCASE letters and numbers.
-
Part 3 (CC): 2 characters,
letters and numbers only (A-Z, a-z, 0-9).
This third field only appears when Is extended serial number is enabled.
Example: 01167-0200F7S9-03 - Part 1 = 01167, Part 2 = 0200F7S9, Part 3 = 03
How to decide normal vs extended
Look at what is printed on the back of your PocketScan:
Look at what is printed on the back of your PocketScan:
- If the serial contains a third part (after a second hyphen), enable Is extended serial number and enter all three parts.
- If it only has two parts, keep the toggle off and fill only Part 1 and Part 2.
Common mistakes
- Wrong case: Part 1 must be lowercase; Part 2 must be UPPERCASE.
- Wrong length: Part 1 = 5, Part 2 = 8, Part 3 (extended) = 2.
- Extended enabled but Part 3 empty: if you enable Is extended serial number, you must enter the 2-character suffix.
- Invalid characters: use only the allowed letter/number ranges per field.
Select a license type for SDX-PocketScan
What the license types are
Use the License type dropdown to assign the correct setup to your device.
Use the License type dropdown to assign the correct setup to your device.
- Pole: for SDX-Pole workflows.
- Mapping: for LiDAR mapping and pole mapping workflows.
- Mapping Pro: for mapping workflows plus automatic photogrammetry processing after upload to SDX-Cloud.
- None: leaves the device without a license assignment.
Important
You can select the license type during device creation or later when editing the device.
If Mapping Pro is selected, do not assign Has flatrate because Mapping Pro already behaves like a flatrate.
If a device must be moved after a license or flatrate is assigned, contact Sodex Support.

- Open Organization > Settings > Devices.
- Open the SDX-PocketScan tab.
- Create a new device or open an existing device from the actions menu for editing.
- In License type, select None, Pole, Mapping, or Mapping Pro.
- If Mapping Pro is selected, do not enable Has flatrate.
- Save or confirm the changes.
Troubleshooting
- Upload fails from Sodex Mobile: Confirm the PocketScan serial number is registered in SDX-Cloud and entered in the correct format (case and length).
- I made a typo in the serial number: If no license/flatrate is assigned yet, delete the device and create it again. If a license/flatrate is already assigned, contact Sodex Support.
- I selected the wrong license type: Edit the device and update the License type dropdown.
- I cannot assign a flatrate: Check whether Mapping Pro is selected.
- I cannot see Organization > Settings: You may not have the required permissions. Device management requires an organization admin.
- I need to move a device that already has a license or flatrate: Contact Sodex Support.
