Understanding Cloud Licenses
Cloud licenses in SDX-Cloud define the base access level of an account. The license type determines whether you can only view content or also upload and create content.
Licenses vs. roles & permissions
Licenses define the base level of access (Guest vs Member).
Roles and permissions define additional responsibilities (for example, managing users, projects, or systems).

Overview
SDX-Cloud offers two cloud license types:
- Guest License
- Member License
You must also be granted project access to see a project’s content. Licenses do not automatically grant access to projects.
License Types
Guest License
A Guest License provides view-only access. You can:
- View and explore existing project data.
- Open dashboards, visualizations, and other project pages in read-only mode.
Limitations:
- Cannot upload new data.
- Cannot create or modify project content.
- Cannot be assigned administrative roles.
Member License
A Member License provides full access to create and manage project content. Your capabilities can be extended by assigned roles (for example, Organization Admin or Project Admin).
- Upload new data.
- Create and manage project content.
- Use tools that create or modify content.

License Assignment and Management
- Licenses are assigned after a user is invited.
- A user can be invited without a license, but cannot log in until a license is assigned.
- Licenses can be assigned and removed in User Management.
- Licenses are not tied permanently to a user and can be reallocated.
- You can see available licenses in User Management (hover indicators for details).
Purchasing Additional Licenses
- Purchase licenses via the SDX-Cloud Shop (if available).
- Licenses are billed annually.
- Available license counts are visible in User Management.
Billing and Subscription Behavior
- If you add licenses or other subscription items during an active subscription period, they are billed proportionally to the remaining time.
- All subscription items (except system licenses) are aligned to the same billing cycle.
- You receive one combined invoice per year covering:
- SDX-Cloud Base Package
- User licenses
- Additional data storage
- Sodex Mobile licenses
- If you add items during the year, they are billed proportionally and then included in the next full billing cycle.
Example
If you purchase an additional user license 6 months after your subscription starts, you are only charged for the remaining 6 months. The license is then included in your next full annual invoice.

Shop availability
The Shop is only visible if your organization purchased directly through Sodex. If you purchased through an authorized dealer, the Shop is not available.
