Summary
Use layers in Sodex Mobile to organize SDX-Pole measurements inside a project. You can create point, line, and area measurements in a selected layer and keep them synchronized with SDX-Cloud and SDX-CAD.
Introduction
In Sodex Mobile, layers are the main structure for SDX-Pole measurement work. A layer belongs to a project, can have its own name, and can contain points, lines, and areas. This helps you keep field data organized on mobile and continue working with the same data later in SDX-Cloud and SDX-CAD.
This workflow starts in the SDX-Pole page and uses a map-based capture view. From there, you can choose a layer, initialize tilt compensation, capture measurements, and open saved measurements again to review or edit them.
Prerequisites
- You can open the relevant project in Sodex Mobile.
- You are online so the app can synchronize layers and save new measurements.
- On the SDX-Pole page, the status bar shows RTK Receiver, GNSS, and NTRIP in green before you start capturing measurements.
- You have an existing layer in the project, or you can create a new one.
- The SDX-Pole Antenna is required and must be connected. See: Connect to the SDX-Pole Antenna in Sodex Mobile.
- Tilt compensation is initialized before you start a point, line, or area measurement.
Step-by-step instructions
1. Open the SDX-Pole workflow
- Open Sodex Mobile.
- Swipe to the SDX-Pole page.
- Open the project where you want to work.
- Confirm that RTK Receiver, GNSS, and NTRIP are green in the status bar.
Expected result: The project is open and the app is ready for SDX-Pole measurement work.
2. Select or create a layer
- Open the layer structure for the project.
- Browse the available layers and nested layers.
- Select the layer where you want to store the new measurements.
- If needed, create a new layer and give it a clear name.
- If a layer is no longer needed, delete it from the mobile workflow.
Expected result: The correct layer is selected for the measurements you want to capture.
3. Open the map and prepare the measurement tools
- Open the map-based measurement view for the selected layer.
- Choose the map background that best supports your work, such as satellite or streets.
- Wait until the map finishes loading and the local coordinate display is available.
- Initialize tilt compensation.
- Continue only after the point, line, and area tools become available.
Expected result: The map is ready, the local position is shown, and the measurement tools are enabled.
4. Capture a measurement
- Select the type of measurement you want to create: point, line, or area.
- Capture the measurement in the map view.
- Watch the live measurement display while you collect the geometry.
- If speed mode is enabled, let Sodex Mobile assign the name automatically.
- If speed mode is not enabled, enter a name when the app asks for it after capture.
Expected result: The new measurement is saved in the selected layer.

5. Review and update saved measurements
- Tap a saved measurement to open its detail view.
- Rename or edit the measurement as needed.
- Verify that the measurement still appears in the selected layer.
- Continue capturing more measurements, or return to the layer structure to switch to another layer.
Expected result: The measurement details are updated and the layer stays organized for follow-up work.
Limits and notes
- Layers can contain points, lines, and areas.
- Layers are synchronized with SDX-Cloud and SDX-CAD.
- Sodex Mobile supports browsing, selecting, creating, and deleting nested layers on mobile.
- Moving layers is not supported on mobile.
- Measurement tools are only available after tilt compensation is initialized.
- The selected map background is kept the next time you open the map.
- Measurement data is stored in meters and shown in your selected unit.
- The local coordinate display depends on the temporary transformation loaded when you open the map.
- Individual layers can also be used later for surface creation or project GCP workflows.
