Summary
You can use the SDX-Pole Antenna with an SDX-PocketScan receiver to capture pole-based measurements in Sodex Mobile. In the current workflow, measurements are created in layers, not in the older Survey screen.
Introduction
This article explains how to prepare the SDX-Pole Antenna hardware and use it in the current SDX-Pole measurement workflow in Sodex Mobile. After the hardware is connected, you work in a project layer, initialize tilt compensation, and then capture point, line, or area measurements from the map-based workflow.
Prerequisites
- You have access to the relevant project in Sodex Mobile.
- You have an SDX-Pole Antenna and an SDX-PocketScan receiver.
- You have a compatible pole with a 5/8-inch thread.
- The SDX-PocketScan receiver can be powered on before installation.
- The SDX-PocketScan GPS antenna is disconnected before you insert the receiver into the SDX-Pole Antenna.
- You are online so Sodex Mobile can synchronize layers and create measurements in the backend.
Step-by-step instructions
You can watch the antenna mounting and tilt calibration workflow in this demo before you start.
1. Prepare the pole-mounted hardware
- Mount the SDX-Pole Antenna on your pole using the 5/8-inch thread.
- Make sure the antenna is fixed securely before you continue.
- Unplug the SDX-PocketScan GPS antenna from the SDX-PocketScan receiver.
- Turn on the SDX-PocketScan receiver.
- Insert the powered-on receiver into the SDX-Pole Antenna.
2. Open the project and access the SDX-Pole measurement workflow
- Open Sodex Mobile.
- Open the project where you want to work with the pole-mounted setup.
- Open the SDX-Pole map or measurement workflow for that project.
- Select an existing layer or create a new layer for the measurements you want to capture.
Expected result: You are inside the project's layer-based SDX-Pole workflow and ready to initialize measurement tools.
3. Initialize tilt compensation
Start the tilt-compensation step from the SDX-Pole workflow.
SDX-PocketScan receiver before tilt compensation is complete. Move the pole in smooth swirling motions until the displayed progress indicator is complete.
Calibrating tilt compensation. - Wait until the app shows that tilt compensation is initialized before continuing.
Expected result: Tilt compensation is complete and the measurement tools are available.
4. Capture measurements in the layer
- Choose the measurement type you want to create, such as a point, line, or area.
- Capture the measurement from the map-based workflow.
- Review the live measurement feedback while capturing.
- If needed, open the created measurement to rename or edit it.
Expected result: The measurement is stored in the selected layer and synchronized with the backend.
Limits and notes
- This workflow uses layers. The older Survey screen is no longer the primary workflow for SDX-Pole measurements.
- Layers are synchronized with SDX-Cloud and SDX-CAD.
- If backend creation fails, the measurement is not created in the app and Sodex Mobile shows a descriptive error.
- Moving layers is not supported on mobile.
- The selected map background can be switched between satellite and streets, and the selection is retained.
- Individual layers can also be used later for workflows such as surface creation or project GCP updates.
