Summary
This article explains how to create, configure, and analyze cross-sections within SDX-Cloud. Cross-sections work in both Data and System Projects and help teams track construction progress by comparing scan data with design references.
Introduction
Cross-sections provide a visual and data-driven way to compare terrain states - such as a recent site scan with a design model or previous snapshot - directly in the Infomap. This enables quick assessment of progress and deviations on-site.
Prerequisites
- Access to a project (System or Data type)
- At least one snapshot uploaded to the project
- Optional: one or more reference terrains
- A supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Access the Measure Panel
- Open your project
- Access the Infomap
- Click the Measure icon on the left toolbar
- Then click the Cross-Section icon

2. View, Search, or Manage Existing Cross-Sections
In the Cross-Section panel:
- List View: View all saved cross-sections
- Search Bar: Search by cross-section or reference name
- Actions: Duplicate, delete, center, or edit any cross-section
- Folders: Organize cross-sections into folders
Organize cross-sections with folders
You can create folders to group and manage cross-sections. Each folder has a name and a color, helping you structure cross-sections by area, phase, or use case.

3. Create a New Cross-Section
- Draw two points on the map to define the start and end
- Enter a name and choose a color
- Save the cross-section
What you should see
The map shows two points selected and the cross-section creation panel.

4. Add a Reference to the Cross-Section
After saving, click “+” (Add Cross-Section Reference) to select from:
- Snapshot (current selected & displayed snapshot via date picker in the top right)
- Latest Snapshot (auto-displays the most recent scan)
- Reference Terrain (uploaded terrain under Data Import)
- Line (generated from an existing reference by selecting points in the graph)
Notes
- At least one snapshot is required to add a reference. Reference terrains are optional.
- Lines simplify noisy references by connecting selected points in a graph to a smooth line.

5. Customize Reference Visibility
- Assign distinct colors to each reference
- Toggle visibility in the graph view for clear comparisons
6. Analyze in the Graph View
The cross-section graph shows:
- Y-axis: Cross-section length
- X-axis: Elevation profile of each reference
- Graph Tools: Zoom, toggle lines, and export
Common Issues or Tips
-
Getting an error loading points?
Make sure data is available for the selected reference in the cross-section area. -
Can't select “Line” reference?
A different reference must already be linked before this option appears. -
Graph appears empty?
Check if at least one visible reference includes data for the defined cross-section line.
