Summary
Uploading a layer as project GCPs lets you turn measured points into a reusable GCP set for the project. Use this workflow when you want future processing in the same project to use project-level GCPs instead of attaching GCPs to a single scan.
Introduction
This workflow starts in the SDX-Pole screen. Because layers are already tied to a project, you upload the points from the correct layer directly from that layer’s option menu. During upload, you define the GCP set name shown in the project settings in SDX-Cloud and confirm the target diameter.
This is a project-level workflow. It updates the project’s GCP set for future work rather than adding GCPs to one specific scan.
Prerequisites
- The points you want to upload already exist in a layer in the correct project.
- The layer contains at least 3 point measurements.
- You can open the SDX-Pole screen and access the layer list for the project.
- If you still need to capture the points, complete the SDX-Pole measurement workflow first.
- You have an internet connection so the upload can complete.
Step-by-step instructions
1. Open the correct layer in SDX-Pole
- Open Sodex Mobile and go to the SDX-Pole screen.
- Open the project that contains the layer you want to use.
- Find the layer that contains the point measurements you want to upload as project GCPs.
Checkpoint: Use the layer that belongs to the correct project. You do not need to select the project again during upload because the layer is already project-based.
2. Start the project GCP upload
- Long-press the layer.
- In the option menu, select Upload as GCPs.
Checkpoint: The upload dialog opens for the selected layer.
3. Enter the GCP set details
- Enter a name for the GCP set.
- Use a name that will help you identify the set later in the project settings in SDX-Cloud.
- Enter the GCP diameter in millimeters.
- If needed, keep the default value of 200 mm, which matches the standard 20 cm Sodex ground control point target.
Checkpoint: The upload form contains the GCP set name and diameter before you continue.
4. Upload the layer points as project GCPs
- Review the entered values.
- Start the upload.
If the upload succeeds, Sodex Mobile shows a small success notification.
Common failure points and fixes
Upload fails because the layer has too few points
- Symptom: You see Upload Failed - At least 3 points are required.
- Cause: The selected layer does not contain enough point measurements.
- Fix: Add more points to the layer until it contains at least 3 points, then start the upload again.
The wrong project is updated
- Symptom: The uploaded GCP set does not appear where you expected it.
- Cause: The selected layer belongs to a different project.
- Fix: Return to the correct project in SDX-Pole and upload the correct layer.
The uploaded points should no longer be reused
- Symptom: The project GCPs do not match the physical targets in the field.
- Cause: The targets were moved after the points were measured.
- Fix: Measure the targets again in a new or updated layer, then upload the updated points as project GCPs.
Verification
- Confirm that Sodex Mobile shows the success notification after the upload.
- Open the related project settings in SDX-Cloud.
- Verify that the GCP set appears with the name you entered during upload.
