Summary
You can capture Ground Control Points (GCPs) immediately after finishing a scan and attach them to that same scan before upload. This workflow keeps the scan blocked from upload until the required GCPs are added, which helps you prepare the scan for photogrammetry processing without leaving the direct follow-up flow.
Introduction
Use this workflow when you want to finish a scan and then measure the GCPs for that scan right away. After the scan is complete, Sodex Mobile shows the available follow-up options, and the Capture GCPs option opens the SDX-Pole map so you can measure the GCPs before you attach them to the scan for photogrammetry processing.
Prerequisites
- You have a Mapping Pro license.
- You have just finished capturing the scan you want to prepare.
- The GCPs for that scan are visible and ready to be measured.
- You have an SDX-Pole antenna and can mount the SDX-PocketScan receiver in it before measuring the GCPs.
- You can open the SDX-Pole workflow in the same project.
- RTK Receiver, GNSS, and NTRIP are green before you measure the GCPs.
- You can initialize tilt compensation before starting GCP capture.
- You are online so the scan and measured GCPs can sync correctly.
Step-by-step instructions
1. Finish the scan and choose GCP capture
- Complete the scan capture in Sodex Mobile.
- Review the follow-up options shown after the scan is finished:
- Capture GCPs
- From existing layer
- Add later
- Skip
- Select Capture GCPs.
- If your device has a Mapping Pro license, confirm that Capture GCPs is highlighted.
Expected result: Background processing starts for the scan, upload does not start, and the SDX-Pole map opens for direct GCP capture while the scan stays in a state where GCPs are still missing.
2. Prepare the SDX-Pole setup
- Let the app open the SDX-Pole map automatically for the scan follow-up workflow.
- Mount the SDX-PocketScan receiver in the SDX-Pole antenna. For the hardware setup, see Article: Sodex Mobile - How to connect to the SDX-Pole Antenna.
- Confirm that RTK Receiver, GNSS, and NTRIP are green.
Expected result: The SDX-Pole hardware is ready, and you are in the SDX-Pole map ready to capture the GCPs directly for this scan.
3. Initialize tilt compensation
- Start the tilt-compensation step in the SDX-Pole workflow.
- Follow the on-screen movement guidance until tilt compensation is complete.
- Wait until the capture tools become available.
Expected result: Tilt compensation is initialized and the app is ready to capture the GCPs for this scan.
4. Capture the GCPs with point measurements
- Use the point measurement tool to capture each GCP or UGCP that belongs to this scan.
- Continue until at least 3 GCPs have been captured.
- For better photogrammetry results, capture at least 5 GCPs when possible.
Expected result: The scan has enough captured GCPs to continue with the workflow.
5. Finish GCP capturing and return to the scan
- When you have captured enough GCPs, stop GCP capturing from the top right of the app.
- Confirm the prompt to continue with the scan workflow.
- Continue to the upload flow for the same scan.
Expected result: GCP capturing is closed, and the app returns you to the scan so you can continue with upload.
6. Upload the scan
- Start the upload to SDX-Cloud.
Expected result: The upload to SDX-Cloud can be started.
Video walkthrough
This Storylane demo shows the same direct-after-scan workflow: finish the scan, choose Capture GCPs from the follow-up options, capture the GCPs in the SDX-Pole map, stop GCP capturing, and continue with the scan upload.

Common failure points and fixes
- You cannot choose the direct-after-scan GCP workflow: Verify that the connected device has a Mapping Pro license.
- You can open the SDX-Pole map, but cannot measure points: Complete tilt compensation first and confirm that RTK Receiver, GNSS, and NTRIP are green.
- The scan still shows missing GCPs: Verify that you captured enough GCPs before closing the GCP workflow.
- You cannot continue after capturing GCPs: Stop GCP capturing from the top right of the app and confirm the prompt to continue with the scan and upload.
