This article explains what the new Device Management area is, which devices it supports, and how licenses and flatrates work. It is the recommended starting point before you begin adding devices.
- Adding & Managing Devices in SDX-Cloud (step-by-step guide)
- DJI Dock & Drone Integration Workflow (for dock deployments)
What is Device Management?
- SDX-PocketScan
- DJI drones
- DJI docks
- viDoc devices
- Add new devices
- Edit device details
- Decide if uploads should be processed automatically
- Decide if devices should create pins in the Infomap
- Assign licenses or flatrates to devices
- Delete devices (as long as no license/flatrate is assigned)
This ensures that only approved, correctly licensed devices are allowed to upload and process data through SDX-Cloud.
Where to find Device Management
- Open SDX-Cloud and sign in.
- In the left sidebar, click Organization (building icon).
- On the Organization page, click the Settings tile.
- In the left menu of the Settings screen, select Devices.
You will see tabs for different device categories (SDX-PocketScan, Drones, DJI Docks, viDoc). Each tab contains a table with one row per device.
Key concepts
1. Active
-
Active = On
- Data models from this device are processed automatically.
-
Active = Off
- The device can still upload data, but SDX-Cloud does not auto-process new data model.
Use this if you want to temporarily stop processing from a specific device without deleting it.
2. Create pins
-
When Create pins is enabled
- SDX-Cloud automatically creates map pins in the Infomap from the device’s images/positions.
-
When Create pins is disabled
- The device still uploads normally, but no pins are created automatically.
3. Licenses, flatrates, and credit-based processing
There are two ways to pay for photogrammetry processing for devices:
Sodex Mobile mapping license
-
A Sodex Mobile mapping license gives unlimited captures and uploads for a single PocketScan device.
-
It is billed annually and tied to that device’s serial number.
Photogrammetry Flatrates
-
A flatrate gives unlimited photogrammetry processing for a specific device up to the included GP.
-
Flatrates are available for:
-
SDX-PocketScan
-
Drones
-
DJI docks
-
viDoc
-
-
They are tied to the serial number of the device and are used to cover the photogrammetry processing volume (e.g. GP per flight dataset).
Photogrammetry credits (alternative to flatrates)
If a device does not have a flatrate, it can still process data using photogrammetry credits, as long as your organization has credits available.
Flatrates and licenses affect processing eligibility. Make sure the correct device is selected before assigning coverage.
4. Assignments
Licenses and flatrates are hardware-bound. Once you assign them, they are permanent.
- The assignment cannot be removed or transferred.
- The device can no longer be deleted.
-
Only the following fields remain editable:
- Name
- Description
- Active
- Create pins
If hardware is replaced (for example, a device breaks), this becomes a support case handled by Sodex.
5. Deleting devices
- No license is assigned, and
- No flatrate is assigned.
Once a device has a license or flatrate:
- The delete option is disabled.
- Use the Active switch to deactivate it if the device should no longer be used.
Typical workflows
-
Onboarding new hardware
- Add a device with its name and serial number
- Decide if it should be Active and create pins
- Assign a license or flatrate if purchased
-
Temporarily pausing processing for a device
- Edit the device and turn Active off
-
Checking coverage
- Use the flatrate and license columns to see which devices are already covered
Step-by-step instructions for these workflows are covered in Adding & Managing Devices in SDX-Cloud.
Best practices
- Verify serial numbers carefully before assigning licenses or flatrates. These are hardware-bound and cannot be changed later.
- Use clear names so devices can be clearly identified.
- For drones with DJI docks, review the DJI Dock & Drone Integration Workflow article to understand how flatrates and GP usage are applied per dataset.
